Could Sharp Pain Near Eyes And In Head Be Something Serious?

Hi there,

I am 39 years old. In the last 48 hrs I have been getting short sharp pains on the right hand side of my head behind my eye but only when I stand up from a sitting or lying position or if I've been bending down. What is causing this?

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms. Based on the description, the symptoms seem to suggest a diagnosis of trigeminal neuralgia.

In this condition, sharp shooting pain occurs on one side of face, which last only for a few seconds.

If it is transient and last only for a short duration, there is no need to worry.

However, if the symptoms persist, then, MRI of brain should be done to find out the underlying cause.

As of now, you can take carbamazepine tablets to relieve the symptoms.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.
