Could Sleeplessness And Rashes On The Neck Be The Side Effects Of Kufril Syrup?
Hi, My son suffered from cold, cough and fever & also had mild itching in ankles; immediately I given calpol and consulted doctor. My doctor prescribed Kufril syrup and calpol. But he didn t sleep overnight and got rashes in neck side skin. Is there any side effects with kufril syrup
It is less likely to be caused by the said cough syrup. Rather, it is likely part of the febrile illness. Some bacteria/viruses causing respiratory infection used to have an associated itchy rash. Anyhow, if you are so worried, you can discontinue sough syrup without much effect on recovery from the illness.
Applying calamine lotion there can ease the itching. If itching is bothersome, I used to give antihistamine like levocetirizine at night for 3-5 days(provided the cough syrup does not contain antihistamine- chlore pheniramine maleate, which is present in kufril D syrup.
If the fever and cough is not getting down in 2-3 days, kindly review with your doctor as we may need addition of an antibiotic too.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
