Could Sleeplessness And Weight Gain Be The Side Effects Of Tripeline?

Hi doc I am on Ziak 6.5 mg and Zartan 50mg for hypertension. I also take Venlor once a day - for menopausal symptoms as I may not take hormone replacements due to Factor V Leyden. I have been seeing a Rheumotologist who has now added Tripeline at night, a malaria tablet 3 x per week and last week he added a pur blokka too (osteo arthritis with lost of soft tissue issues) I trust the doctor fully and realise some of the treatment is temporary but worry about the combination of the meds and the side effects. thus far I have had no more than a slight runny tummy, sleepiness and minor weight gain. can you comment on this please

Hi,

Amitriptyline (Tripteline) is a medication used to treat depression, but it can also be used to treat chronic pain conditions such as osteoarthritis. While it can be an effective treatment option, it can also cause several side effects.

Sleeplessness and weight gain are both possible side effects of amitriptyline. Amitriptyline can cause drowsiness, which can make it difficult to fall asleep at night. Weight gain can also be a common side effect, as it can increase your appetite and slow down your metabolism. It is important to talk to your doctor about any concerns you have regarding your medication regimen, especially if you are experiencing side effects. Your doctor may be able to adjust your dosage or recommend an alternative treatment option.

In addition to medication, there are several lifestyle changes you can make to help manage menopausal symptoms, hypertension, and osteoarthritis. These can include:
- Eating a healthy diet that is low in salt and saturated fats
- Engaging in regular exercise or physical therapy
- Practice stress management through yoga and meditation
- Getting enough sleep each night
- Avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption

Your healthcare provider can help you weigh the potential benefits and risks of each treatment option and make informed decisions about your care.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
