Could Sore Throat, Sinus And Head Congestion With Bloody Green Snot Indicate Viral Infection?

I have a sore throat, major sinus and head congestion, goopy eyes at night, thick green snot with a little blood in it, is this a viral infection or bacterial infection? I have a left over prescription for penicillin VK 500 mg that i ve been taking becasue I don t have insurance currently and don t want to go to the doctor if I don t have to $$. I ve been taking the penecillin for 2 days but don t have imporovement yet. I take it every 6 hours. My question - will the penicillin eventually work or will I have to go to the doctor anyway? I have a 5 day business meeting beginning Monday that I need to be healthy for. Thanks,

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain the symptoms of sore throat, major sinus and head congestion, goopy eyes at night, thick green snot with a little blood seems to be most probably due to sinus infection or sinusitis..

As the symptoms seems to be severe therefore a course of antibiotics for atleast ten days to two weeks can be taken for relief and taking for 2 days will not relieve you..
Along with it to relieve congestion and headache you need to take , anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, do saline nasal irrigation, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
You can also be advised decongestant nasal sprays containing Xylometazoline or Oxymetazoline..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
Do warm compresses around nostrils..
