Could Spotting And Frequent Urination Be Due To A Pregnancy?

Hello. I have been taking birth control for 5 years and have a concern that I may be pregnant. For the past day 1/2 I have been experiencing spotting between periods (my period isn't due for another week and 1/2.) This NEVER has happened in all 5 years. The only time I ever experienced spotting was maybe 5 days before my expected period. I also am experiencing frequent urination. I don't know if I'm overreacting and it could be normal, but I'd like to know if I should wait to see if I miss my period or just take a test. Thank you, Leah

Dear Leah,

Spotting in the intermenstrual phase is not a symptom of pregnancy. You have not missed your period and therefore, for all practical purposes, you are not pregnant. Moreover, you are protected by regular oral contraceptive pills.

This midcycle bleeding is most likely to be break though bleeding while on the oral contraceptives. Adding one more pill in the routine dose will help you control this spotting.

While on birth control pills, there is a possibility of urinary stagnation due to smooth muscles relaxation property of Progesterone. This may cause urinary infection resulting in frequency of urination. Please get your urine examined from the laboratory. If there is any evidence of urinary infection, you will have to take an antibiotics treatment.

Please report to your Gynaecologist.

Hi welcome to the health care magic

Don't worry here for mild spotting....

If your period delayed than you can do your urine hcg detection card test to rule out pregnancy

Excess stress sometime can lead more urination..

If spotting more than work up can be done as follow.....
-Pelvic examination
-USG
-CBC
-Hormonal profile only if needed

If specific cause found than treated accordingly

Take care

Consult gynecologist for examination and further work up if needed
