Could Squishy Lump On The Head Be A Cause For Concern?

Hi, my daughter fell down some stairs, luckily she was caught by my partner but received a bump to the head, there was a huge lump that appeared after so we used ice which reduced the swelling and we kept an eye on her all through the night. She wasn't sick and is acting her normal happy self but I've now noticed that the bruising has come out but its also very squishy? Should I be worried what does this mean?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that she has got a soft tissue injury and along with it there can be mild concussion and as she is completely normal there does not seems to be anything related to deeper head injury..
The bump and bruising seems to be due to inflammation secondary to soft tissue injury leading to accumulation of inflammatory exudate, cells, dead fibres and blood from ruptured blood vessels leading to swelling and bruising is due to Hematoma formation..
I would suggest you to keep doing alternate warm and cool compresses and if there is pain you can give her Ibuprofen and apply a numbing gel containing Lignocaine over the painful area..
Gradually the swelling and bruising will start to resolve..
