Could Swelling In Knuckle After Pin Prick Be Due To Infection?

earlier today a sewing got stuck in my finger. it was the end that the thread goes through right at the knuckle but on the palm side. I got it (very painful to remove) and cleaned my finger but now my finger is starting to swell and is a little red not extremly red just I'd say a bit pinker. Could this be a sign of infection or just from the trauma? It happened about 3 hours ago.
