Could Swelling In Legs And Ankles Be Due To Amiodarone?
I am on new medication to treat rapid/irregular heart beat due to AFib. I am now experiencing swelling in my legs and ankles. Medications Amiodarone HCL 200mg - Diltiazem 180 mg. To slow down heart rate. I am under my cardiologist s care. Cannot reach him today. Any advice? Thank you.
Swellings around the ankles and the legs is due to accumulation of fluids in the tissues caused by Diltiazem. It can also cause constipation, headache, palpitation.
Where as Amiodarone is less likely to cause the swellings in the above mentioned sits. It is more likely to cause lung fibrosis, vision problem, corneal deposits, thyroid problems, discoloration of the skin and abnormal heart rhythm.
Hope your query is being answered. Kindly rate the answer, if you are convinced. Best regards
