Could Swollen And Discolored Foot Post An Injury Indicate Fracture?
Hi! I dropped a desk today on my foot, what happened is I placed my bookbag on the top and it became top heavy and the corner of the table, as well as my bookbag dropped on my foot. I went down shortly after to get ice.. And I ve been trying to ice it as much as possible, but it is still swollen and pretty dis colored (mainly purple). It hurts a lot still and I am concerned of whether or not it could be fractured or broken
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
History of injury with increasing swelling and pain on pressure to bone and deformity are known symptoms of fracture. Change to purple colour indicates bleeding or oozing under the skin.
Your problem needs exclusion of fracture. Visit your family doctor for local examination followed by X-ray as per need. It's good you applied ice. It reduces bleeding, inflammation and pain to some extent. Take over the counter pain pill. Avoid painful movements and consult your doctor.
Thank you. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
