Could Taking Eliquis Cause Itching And Rashes?

I have been taking Eliquis, 5 mg twice daily along with flecanide, 50 mg twice daily since last Nov. I experienced severe itching approx 3 months later and a rash . I have been dx with A-fib. My cardiologist changed Eliquis from 5mg tablets to 2.5 tablet and had no problems until this past month. Again I am experiencing severe itching and rash mainly on my legs and arms so that when I scratch I bleed. I am seeing my doc. later on this wk. Have other people experienced this and where do I go from here?

I can understand your concern . Pruritus and rash are very common side effects of eliquis . Pruritus has been reported in up to 10 % of subjects taking eliquis . In my opinion if side effects are so troublesome this drug should be stopped under your doctors supervision as he has already decrease the dose from 5 mg twice daily to 2.5 mg twice daily. Further dose reduction is not possible and this will stop the main therapeutic benefits of anticoagulation . So discus about this..eliquis is not the only drug..three are so many drugs even better than it and with good clinical trials and are recommended for anticoagulation in atrial fibrillation . So don't worry about this..just discus about all these serious persistent side effects . Your physician will definitely change the medication and give you better substitute . Hope this will help .
