Could Tap Water Be Source Of Recurrent Serratia? Ways To Prevent Another Serratia Sinus Infection?

I've had transphenoidal hypophysectomy for pituitary tumor, and the superior and middle turbinates were removed. I've now had recurrent sinus infections with serratia marscesens cultured from my sinuses. I've been irrigating my sinuses with tap water. Could the tap water be the source of my recurrent serratia? Is there anything else I can do to prevent another serratia sinus infection?

Hello, Serratia marcescens is found almost everywhere in nature, but it prefers damp conditions. For this reason, it is often found in bathrooms, where it is thought to cause the pink film sometimes found in showers and sinks.

In order to prevent Serratia infections, protective wear, hand washing, and proper sterilization of medical instruments---especially respiratory devices and catheters---are essential. Maintaining a clean bathroom environment is also important.
Regards.
