Could The Dosage Of Levetiracetam Be Tapered Post Acoustic Neuroma?

My father aged 78 had a surgery of acoustic neuroma in July 2014. Before the surgery he faced some problem of partial seizures. However post surgery no seizures happened. As advised by doctor he is taking Levipil 500mg (Levetiracetam), twice daily on daily basis. However may be due to side effect he is very much depressed. My Question : Can I stop giving him Levetiracetam by gradually reducing the dose to once and day and then in alternate days and thereafter in a gap of two days. Will there be any adverse effect on his health and will it be safe to phase out this drug gradually ? If so please suggest the correct way.
