Could The Hardness Under The Skin In Hip Area After A Dog Bite Be A Part Of Healing?

I was bitten on my right hip area 10 days ago by an Akita and was treated at the hospital for the wounds with doxycycline and Batrim. I have been noticing the whole area is very hard under the areas that are healing. Is that part of the healing process? Thank you for your input.

Hello,

I understand your concern for hardness over dog bite area. I hope you are immunized properly after dog bite by anti-rabies injections. IN my patients with such a problem I generally prefer to give a course of oral antibiotics along with the vaccination schedule.

In most of the cases if the bite is quite seep then there is formation of granulation tissues which are part of healing process. It is initially firm to hard in appearance.

IN case of you feel any tenderness or pain over the affected area or any soreness or any throbbing sensation then it is a sign of secondary infection. Just check out for all the above mentioned feature at your wound site.

So if you have gone for proper vaccination along with antibiotic therapy then there is nothing to be worried about the hardness. In case if you feel any soreness or any throbbing sensation then must report to your treating doctor.

All the best.
