Could The Pain In Leg Be Due To Nerve Damage?

I had back surgery (a discechtomy) in Dec 2009; prior to the surgery I experienced severe pain in my left leg which went partially number on the side along with my pinky toe. My doctor suspected that I suffered nerve damage in my leg because of the ruptured disc that needed to be repaired.

After surgery the pain subsided and eventually I regained feeling in my toe. However, now I am having pain in my left leg again. Could I still be suffering from nerve damage and is this repairable?
