Could The Twin Have Been Lost?

Many years ago I gave birth to a baby girl. The doctor told me there were two placentas. My daughter now wants to know if there could have been a twin that I lost early in pregnancy. I did have spotting early in the pregnancy and thought I was miscarrying. Even the doctor told me I'd never carry the baby to term. Could I have lost my daughter's twin?

Hi, thanks for writing..
Yes, it could be possible.. There is something called vanishing twin or a stuck twin where the twin dies early during the pregnancy and disappears being a small part of placenta or get stuck to the side of the normal twin.. this is called fetus papyraceous.. in this case sometimes the placenta of the twin grows normally.. The presence of 2 placenta can also be a normal variant.. Hope i have answered your query.. good day..
