Could Urine Incontinence In A Diabetic Patient Indicate Prostate Problem?

I m a type 2 diabetic. I m experiencing dry mouth, thirsty all the time, starting to lose ability to hold my urine. I feel the urine coming, try to hold, but lose several drops before getting to toilet. Any idea what this is and what I can do to fix. I m start to think a prostate issue. My age is 50

Hi
Thanks for posting your query on HCM.
I can understand your concern for the urinary incontinence.

Well, while considering your age, prostatic enlargement can be responsible for your present symptoms. However, in view of dry mouth, thirst and possible increase frequency of urination uncontrolled blood glucose could be another reason. As persistently high blood glucose level may impair the nerves ("Autonomic neuropathy") responsible for voiding reflexes in the bladder.

I would advise you to kindly visit a urologist for the following to rule out the above conditions:

1. Fasting blood glucose and HbA1c level
2. Urine analysis to rule out infection
3. Measurement of post voidal urine volume
4. Pelvic ultrasound to rule out prostatic enlargement
5. Urodynamic studies.

Hope the suggestions given above could be helpful in detecting the cause and thus the effective treatment of urinary incontinence.

Wishing you a very good health.
