Could Usage Of Biotin Be The Cause For Blackness On Tongue?

My tongue has turned black. I just started using Biotin. I just started using a mouth wash for antigingivitis also. I have also increased my use of B-100 Complex to every day instead of a couple times a week. Oh, one more thing. The last couple of nights I have had a glass of cabernet sauvignon wine. Could any of these be the culprit? I have had a slightly unusual taste in my mouth also. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
I was not aware that there was a fee for this service. Unfortunately, I am on a very small income and cannot afford this.
Have a good day.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain black coating on tongue is due to a condition known as Black hairy tongue and is caused due to improper cleaning of tongue leading to accumulation of debris and bacteria over the tongue that leads to dark stained tongue surface..
It does not occur due to biotin or vitamin B complex intake but in case if the tablets you take are dyed with dark food colours, it can be a cause..
It can also occur due to long term intake of only soft meals, taking any medication that stains the tongue like Bepto-Bismol, reduced cyclic shedding of the tongue papillae that accumulates debris and bacteria, excess intake of tea and coffee..
Slight unusual taste can be due to side effect of the vitamin tablets while can also be due to oral infection or poor hygiene..
Nothing to worry as it is harmless and not indicating a sign of any serious illness..
I would suggest you to start cleaning your tongue with a tongue cleaner/ scraper/
Gargle with 1:1 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water.
You can also chew hard foods as they clean tongue by friction.
Always gargle after eating anything.
Clean your tongue using a tongue cleaner..
Drink plenty of water..

If still does not improve within a month consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
