Could Usage Of Drain Water By A Toddler Be A Matter Of Concern?

Hi, my son who is 2 and a half years old was playing in the toilet water earlier tonight. Our toilet contains 2000 flushes with bleach cleaner in it. He was using a rag and was putting the toilet water on his chest. I immediately gave him a bath and had him drink a cup of water incase he had ingested any of the toilet water. I have been keeping a close eye on him and taking his temperature every hour. He seems to be doing okay and has a temperature of 97.2*F. Should I still be worried?

Hi,

Toilet water containing bleach cleaner can be harmful if ingested or exposed to the skin. The symptoms may depend on the amount ingested and the concentration of the bleach cleaner in the water. Ingestion of even small amounts of bleach can cause nausea, vomiting, and irritation of the mouth, throat, and stomach. If your child has ingested toilet water, it is important to watch for signs of gastrointestinal irritation, such as vomiting or diarrhea.

It is good that you immediately bathed him and had him drink water. It is also recommended to call your local poison control center or your child's doctor for further guidance on what to do next. They may ask about the concentration of the bleach cleaner and the amount of water your child ingested. In the meantime, continue to monitor your child's temperature and behavior. If you notice any symptoms or changes in behavior, seek medical attention immediately.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
