Could Vaginal Spotting Be Due To Slipping Out Of An IUD?

I have an iud that was placed almost three years ago. I have never had any issues and my menstrual cycle is the same. I just finished my period about a week ago, which was almost a week early, and now am having bright red spotting with a lot of mucuos. I have never had this happen. There is a tiny bit of discomfort on the left to center of my lower abdomen. Could this be a sign of the iud slipping out or possibly an ectopic pregnancy?
