I am pregnant with my first child and went for a 5 week scan (vaginal ultrasound not the stomach one) as i have had some strong cramps on the right side of my stomach, everything was normal but the lady told me to go back for another scan in ten days or straight away if i feel any pain or feel ill? i dont understand why i need to go back in ten days is there something wrong?

Hi,

Usually the fetus is not grown enough to accurately to see its size and heart beat this early at 5 weeks ,by 7 weeks it is more likely for these to be visible, which is why the doctor must have advised a repeat scan.
You need not worry as you do not have any spotting or bleeding.

Do go for a repeat scan at 7 weeks and continue folic acid till then.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
