Treatments for ichthyosis often take the form of topical application of creams and emollient oils, in an attempt to hydrate the skin. Retinoids are also used for some conditions. Exposure to sunlight may improve or worsen the condition. There can be ocular manifestations of ichthyosis, such as corneal and ocular surface diseases. Vascularizing keratitis, which is more commonly found in congenital keratitis-ichythosis-deafness (KID), may worsen with isotretinoin therapy.

Srinivas there is no cure for Icthyosis vulgaris, I tried a lot and spent a lot to find a cure for this disease, but i have not found any thing of that sort. it is the dry skin that will crack and cause pain and irritation, you need to apply oils and creams and Moisturisers, doc might give vitamine A and all. not to use hard soap and all.i have found very good techenique. it is simple. add 5 to 10 ml of coconut oil into the warm water you take bath and take bath with that oil mixed water. see how comfortable you will be for the whole day. no other creams is required. try this coconut oil techenique.

Re:Icthyosis

Hello! This is my first post to the board, but I have been reading it for quite some time. I have found a CURE for my ichthyosis vulgaris, and am excited to share it!

I have had IV since at least the age of 5...my grandfather also had it. Like most of you, I have tried *every* lotion that exists, all different alpha hydroxies, and alternative therepies such as dry skin brushing, salt scrubs, etc. I had also developed a fear of Soap, as that seemed to dry my skin even more. Even with the best therepies, my skin was very dry at best, and *Extremely flaky* and cracking at worst.

Over a year ago I discovered this site and tried one of the products suggested, Dermal Therapy's Alpha Hydroxy High Potency Moisturizer. Well, I was thrilled, as it made my skin SO MUCH BETTER... I had to use it every day, but only once a day was enough...my skin was so soft, but still a little flaky, even with dry skin brushing and salt scrubs being used with the Miracle Lotion, as I now called it. I would say I had been healed 60-70%.

OK, remember when i said I had developed a fear of drying soaps? Well, this past october i returned to cold New YOrk from a week on the beach in Florida...and my skin was flaking off like CRAZY, so I decided to just scrub with these all natural soaps I had, which is when I discovered the second part of my cure:

now, every day i suds up in the shower with these great soaps from Voda Soap. they are made with lots of oils, which is why i think they work...i get really sudsy, and then scrub with a loofah. THEN (important part) when i dry off I SCRUB with a towel (stay in the shower for this) and all the skin peels away! Every time i do it, i think oh, god, look at this mess of skin, this is not going to work...but then i apply the miracle lotion and i look GREAT!! i have been doing this for three months in a cold, dry new york city winter and LITERALLY NOT ONE FLAKE!! my skin is SO SOFT and LOOKS BEAUTIFUL! it has made me so happy, no flakes in my apartment, on my clothes...or on me!

my friend makes voda soap, but this is not a plug for her...i think any high quality natural soap with *lots of oil* would do the trick. but if you want to check out her site it is vodasoap.com, and you can at least check out the ingrediants. its definately the combination of the two products and scrubbing that make the difference. but if i feel lazy i can even skip a couple of days of scrubbing.

please let me know if any of you try this...i would love to have helped someone else end their years of searching. one thing though....this process does not work on my face. both the soap and the lotion cause me to break out...i still have flaking on my face.

good luck!
