Cystitis. Sachets Provide Temporary Relief. Advise?

Hello, I have recently lost my Virginity to my boyfriend( about 2 months ago) and since the last month I have had almost constant cystitis. The first time I went to the doctors they have me antibiotics as I had a water infection, and this cleared it up for a while. Then it came back a few days later, since then I have used the sachets you can buy at pharmacies and this helps short term however it is back in no time. I have taken ALL the precautions and drink lots of water, clean every night with no perfumed lotions, wear cotton underwear, urinate after sex. EVERYTHING. The last time I had sex was Sunday, 6 days and since then I have had cystius really bad. It goes away when I take sachets then as soon as the course is finished it returns, so now I'm afraid to have sex again. Please help me it is unbearable I cannot go out and cannot stop crying!

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello, I would be happy to help you with your question.

It is not uncommon for sexual intercourse to be associated with bladder infections. It sounds like you are doing everything right! When women are persistently treated with antibiotics, and seem to have a poor response, then they need to be re-evaluated by an OB/GYN. While you may have treated the original problem, sometimes these treatments can cause new problems that can mimic a bladder infection. An example, to which you are now prones having been on antibiotics, is a chronic yeast infection.

I hope that this helps. If you have more questions, please click on "ASK ME A QUESTION" link above to directly ask me a question!

Pathologist and Microbiologist Dr. Anju Choudhary's  Response
hi there, cystitis post coital is one of the most common cause of UTI and it can be treated. You will need to get your urine exam done to identify the infecting organism and take a course of antibiotics for the same. Your doctor can also prescribe you a low dose prophylactic couse of antibiotic like septran or nitrofurantoin to stop the infection from recurring. In the meanwhile you can continue taking plenty of fluids and the precautions that you have been taking. Do not handle your genitalia too much and also avoid fingering so that there is less trauma and less chances of infection. TAke care.
