Hi
Thanks for your query

Topical medications can definitely be of help to you in reducing the pigmentation to some extent, although only after proper treatment, we can know the results

Since you have developed pigmentation of the skin, i would advice that you should use a lightening agent like kojic acid and vitamin c combination over the scars,,this is a simple, harmless lightening agent which can be used for as long the blackish pigmentation is there..Use it only in the morning. Along with it, you can use something like a skinlite or lomela cream at night over the pigmented areas but remember not to rub this cream too much into the skin. Just apply a little amount and leave it there.
Use proper sunscreen (spf>26) before going out in the sun so that skin doesn't darken any further . Proper application of the sunscreen is also very important. Apply it atleast 30 minutes before going out in the sun and reapply every 3 - 4 hours as this is the maximum time for which any sunscreen is effective.
Take a diet rich in vitamin C and antioxidants like Citrus fruits and lots of salads
If after all the above measures, the pigmentation tends to persist, then i would advise that you should see a dermatologist as there are various other measures for the treatment of pigmentation like the use of chemical peels, dermabrasion etc which a dermatologist can decide according to the type of pigmentation..

Hope it helps
Wishing you speedy recovery
