Developed An Allergy, Rashes, Have Sunburn, Itching, Solar Urticaria. Using Neutrogena Sunblock. Help
Hi, 10 years ago I developed at allergy to the sun after my daughter was born The allergy lasted 2 years. After that I was able to go in the sun without no itchy rash of any sort. This summer, I decided to go into the tanning bed because I thought I was ok and it made my allergy come back. Now I instantly breakout in what resembles a sunburn and an itchy rash. This lasts about 30-40 min before it goes away completely. Even if I put 110 neutragena sunblock on I still have a reaction but not as severe. I was diagnosed with PMLE back then but I think I have solar uticaria now. Do you know of any medications or creams that would enable me to go outside and walk around during the day??

Hello, You have UV sensitivity which was what you mention 'allergy to the sun'. Occasionally, heat or solar urticaria is another term used. So you are right.
Tanning beds should not be used especially given your previous history as you cannot be certain as to what wavelength of light they use. This has now caused your 'allergy' to return.
Use: Long acting antihistamines such as Fexofenadine 180mg upto twice daily for summer months (or 4 months in one go). Dermocalm lotion upto four times a day just on affected skin Use sun blocking creams on exposed areas of the body 30mins before sun exposure. Do not get into tanning beds.
I hope that was useful. Best Wishes.
