Diabetes Type 2. Black Specs In Toilet Bowl Water. Concerning?

Could diabetes cause the water in the toilet bowl to get black specs?...my mother -in-law now lives with us and has her own bathroom...she needs full time care and we are her caregivers...every time I clean her toilet I have noticed these black specs...No other toilet bowl has this and she uses her bathroom exclusively...is this something I should be concerned about beyond diabetes?...She is a type II diabetic and we have been able to really control her numbers since she has come to live with us. Thank you for your assistance.

Hello,

By your history I assume that your mother-in-law is an elderly diabetic and she is bedridden.
Black stools are called Melena. It has nothing to do with diabetes.
It is due to the presence of blood in stools.
This may be due to Upper Gastrointestinal bleed.
Elderly are prone for this.
The common causes are Gastric bleeding.
Consult a gastroenterologist for evaluation

General & Family Physician Dr. Het Ram Bishnoi 's  Response
Hello,
thanks for the query to H.C. M. Forum.
Diabetes is not a single disease but it is hub of many many diseases.
Type 2 diabetes usually occurs in obese patient ( not necessary) and these patients are prone to many other diseases as ,
Hypertension ( heart disease)
Skin & soft tissue diseases ( boils )
Renal diseases.
As black specs you noticed in toilet bowl may be due to blood either from intestine ( in stool ) or due to blood in urine ( kidney involvement) .
So physical examination by a physician will reveals the whole thing as may be due to bleeding from hemorrhoids.
Get in regularly blood examination for SUGAR, LIPIDS,UREA.
Diabetes in itself in not a serious disease but carelessness of patient develops a serious problem.
Good luck .
