Diabetic. Taking Gluformin. Is It Safe To Change Medicine? Any Side Effects?
Hello Dr. I am a 60 year old male, having diabetes for the last 10 years. I was taking Gluformin 500 twice daily and my sugar levels are around meals 120 fasting and 180 two hours after the meals. Recently one doctor suggested that I take Glimesave m1,one tablet daily. It seems to be controlling the sugar level better. Can you please let me know if it is okay to change my medicine and what is the risk of side effects. Thank you Ramkumar
Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Thanks for posting your query,
You are diabetic type II for last 10 years, patients do feel when the old medicine is working fine what is the reason to change the medicine.
Your Fasting and postprandial blood sugar is little bit high that is the cause of changing the drug, please do not worry it contains same drug Metformin along with Glimepiride 1 mg.
Both the drugs works well in combination and your blood sugar will be better controlled.
This is perfectly all right to change the medicine.
Because it is same medicine you was taking so do not worry about side effect as it contains a drug Glimepiride so just be careful about Hypoglycemia.
If it occurs just take some sugar or Glucose. In case if you have any allergy or new symptom please contact your treating doctor.

Good Luck.
Hello, GLIMISAVE has GLIMMIPRIDE in it and if your sugar levels are being controlled better by it,then you should carry on.It's advantageous to use in elderly people as there are less chances of hypoglycemia as compared to other hypoglycemics from same class. It also results in low weight gain and is relatively safe drug in mild renal impairment. Side effects are minor and related to gastrointestinal effects like mild dyspepsia to diarrhea and hypoglycemia. Make sure that you don't exceed this dose, without talking to your doctor,as it can result in hypoglycemia. Thanks
