Diabetic And Hypertensive. Feeling Sick With Flu Like Symptoms. What Should I Do?

Hi, my husband has diabetes and hypertension. He has been sick with flu like symptoms for almost a month. We just moved to the area and do not have a doctor as of yet. His blood sugar has been running really high for about a week, today it was 400. He has had Thera-Flu today along with orange juice and nightquil at night. What would be the best thing for us to do right now.

Hello,

Flu syndrome is self limiting. But the duration of flu infection is quite long in your husband.

I would advice my patient to undergo blood and urine analysis to rule out any bacterial infection because it is common on uncontrolled diabetes. Secondly it is important to keep his blood sugar under control. Quickly identify a doctor in your new location and consult him.
