Hello,welcome to HCM,
1.diabetes affects the retinal blood vessels and subsequenly the retinal layers as the duration of the disease progresses.retinal detachment is rarer in diabetes compared to others mentioned at the beginning .many patients do not show any signs of vision loss till a long time.
2.keeping a regular follow up with a retina /posterior segment specialist every 6 months to yearly should be enough at this stage.balanced low carb. diet, regular moderate exercise not to be forgotten
3. a sudden shower of black spots ,sudden blurring of vision etc may be warning signs of retinal detachment .
