The presence puss indicates deep seated infection. So I would advice my patient to consult the dentist or an ENT doctor to get evaluated. The treatment is a course of antibiotic to control the infection. Surgical removal may be required if there is dead tissues. Diabetes should be kept under control for the infection to fully cure.
