Hello,
Yes there is definitely a relation between diabetes and smoking.
Smoking is now proven to be an independent risk factor for diabetes, and amongst diabetics it increases the risk of complications.

Diabetes complications already include heart disease, stroke and circulation problems. Smoking adds to the risk of developing all of these things.
In fact  smoking can double the likelihood of these conditions, as well as doubling the chances of suffering from kidney problems and erectile dysfunction.
For type 2 diabetics, the major cause of death is cardiovascular disease.
you consult your doctor and get your prescription revised so that your diabetes is controlled as well as get the medications to improve your erectile dysfunction.
Keep doing regular aerobic exercises and add muscle resistance training to your exercise regime.
Carry on with your other dietary restrictions and must do mental relaxation exercises along with yoga.
Thanks

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Mayank Bhargava's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting you query.
As such there is no direct correlation between diabetes and smoking but smoking and diabetes are considered as major risk factor for heart disease.
Uncontrolled blood sugar is also associated with deranged lipid profile with increased probability of atherosclerotic changes.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ endocrinologist and should go for thorough check up.
Unable to get erection of penis could also be a complication of uncontrolled diabetes.
Sildenafil/ Tildenafil can be used for erection of penis but your heart artery and carotid artery status.
You should go for treadmill stress test and color Doppler studies of common carotid artery before using sildenafil.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
