Diagnosed Melanoma In Situ Stage I, Was A Mole. Good Prognosis? Should Have Sentinel Node Biopsy?
my 34 year old son was just told today he has melanoma in situ and that it will be surgically excised within 2 weeks .It was in a mole on his forearm. They said it was stage 1 but barely even that.Is that a good prognosis? Should he have a sentinel node biopsy? CT,MRI or PET scan? He has no illness, does not smoke, drinks socially and is on no medication .He is of 25% Lebanese ,the rest northern European ethnicity. He has had alot of moles for years, has moderate sun exposure.
hello sir , As ur son is diagnosed of melanoma in situ that to in very early stage is good prognosis , and is almost cure. For melanoma in situ with no regional lymphnode enlargment and stage 1 , no need for PET, CT & MRI scan . thus no need for worry about the lesion now. As u mentioned ur son had multiple moles , i advise him to follow the moles about change in size, shape and color . If any new lesion or other symptoms approach consultant immediately . But as of now no investigation required for excised lesion
