Diagnosed To Be Pre-diabetic, On Metformin. Since Glucose Reading Is Not So High Can I Drop Medication?
Hi doctor. I was diagnosed to be pre-diabetic last year. Today, 2 hours after having breakfast, my blood glucose reading is 146 (without taking medication). My fasting blood glucose reading was 107 yesterday (without medication). One day before these two selftests, I took two metformin pills a day. Now, since these readings are not high, can I drop my medication altogether? Thanks.
Thanks for query on hcm. Only fbs or ppbs within normal limits is not the criteria for medication. You have to go for HbA1c ,urine sugar investigation. HbA1c should be up to 6.5 is ideal. Life style modification is necessary to control it. You have to do exercise regularly and avoid sugar, starch containing food. Avoid chocolates, ice cream, cold drinks, sweets. If you able to manage it regularly than try to avoid medicines under guidance of your doctor.
