Diagnosed With Grave's Disease, Thyroid Treated With Radio-active Pill, On Eltroxin. Difference Between Eltroxin, Diotroxin ?
Hello Doctor !Ayear ago I was diagnosed with Grave s Disease, The Thyroid was treated with a radio-active pill and I went on to Eltroxin , I had lost 28 kg in 2 months , but am feeling great now (exept when I stopped taking the Eltroxin for 3 weeks.) A very good friend of mine, had her thyroid removed through surgery 35 years ago, and she uses Diotroxin .What is the difference, as we both suffered from the same Hyperthyroidism , Although I do not think that she had Graves.
Welcome to HCM. I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. 1. Graves disease (hyperthyroidism) after radio iodine treatment or surgery will become hypothyroid. So treatment is replacement with Eltroxin in both cases.
2. Diotroxin is a combination of T3 and T4 (thyroid hormones) and Eltroxin is T4. T3 is active form, so if you need faster action we can use diotroxin,, while eltroxin will be useful in most of the usual situation as in our body T4 will be converted to T3.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
