Diagnosed With Afib. Taking Moltaq. High Pulse Rate, Sore Throat, Chest Pressure. Need To Go To Emergency?

when is time to go to the ER. I have been diagnosed with afib. I was on Sotalol 80 mg 2x a day. Yesterday I was at the ER because my pulse was in the 40's. They took me off Sotalol. and prescribed Moltaq but I can't take it unitl Monday. tonight I am in afib. pulse to rapid to count. Chest pressure, throat is sore, but not like the kind of sore throat you get when you have strep. I have been in afib for about 3 hours now. I am so frustrated. I have had 3 trips to the ER in the last month due to the rapid heart rate that wont convert on its own.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Dear Sir/ Madam
Yes. You must visit ER because you have symptomatic AF. chest pressure, involvement of throat may indicate ischemia due to high heart rate. Definitely need to go to ER and get evaluated.
Do not get frustrated you only need good control of AF which you will eventually have. Dronedarone (moltaq) will not cause instant relief. So for the time being you will require other drug.
Sincerely

General & Family Physician Dr. Nehal Mehta's  Response
with pulse rate of 40 , you shouldnt have been taken completely off the sotalol,
taking half a dose could have helped you ,
AF heart rate can jump suddenly and your symptoms indicate angina which may occur due to raised heart rate. you should see ER howevere if you decide against then you should atleast restart sotalol at helf the dose and see if your heart rate is below 100 or 90. In the mean time you can fix appontment with your cardiologist.
Multaq is very slow at action and wont help you in given situation.
Said this , seeing ER and if possible reference to On call cardiologist wiil be the best option.
hope this helps
