Diagnosed With Heart Failure. Had A Bad Dose Of Flu With Chest Infections
Hi I have been diagnosed by my Cardiologist as having heart failure, (cardiomyopathy) and a week ago my heart was pumping at 24. For the last two months I have had a bad dose of the flu with chest infections ECT, my Doctor is of the opinion that the flu virus has affected my heart, as just over 12 months ago my heart was perfect after having completed a measured stress test. I am a male of 66 years no family history of heart issues, 70 kg in weight I have a very good low fat diet, no swelling of legs or feet. Last week I had an angiogram which showed no blockages, I am now booked to have an MRI of the Heart
It is possible that your decline in heart function is related to an infection. Viruses or bacteria can sometimes affect different aspects of the heart.
The prognosis would vary depending on the degree of injury to the heart, the infective agent involved and if appropriate treatment is initiated.
When the MRI is done, your doctor would be able to tell you what further treatment is needed.
I hope this helps
