Diagnosed With Hepatitis A, Resulted In Jaundice. High Enzyme, Bilirubin Levels. Cure?
Hi. I was recently diagonesed with Hepatitis A which resulted into Jaundice . My enzymes levels were significantly elevated and bilirubin was raised to 13. After several LFTs, now my enzyme level has come down but bilirubin still seems to be high. How much time does it normally takes for Bilirubin to come down to normal?

I am glad that you are recovering from acute hepatitis-A.
Rest assured that you will completely recover from this
without any residual damage to the liver. This does not
go into a chronic phase like Type-B or Type-C hepatitis.
Your enzymes have been coming down and so will the
serum bilirubin. Usually, it takes about 4 weeks for all
the lab results come back normal. I want you to make
sure that you take a good Super B-Complex Vitamin
along with Vit-C 1000 mg. daily.Follow a good high
protein diet, cutting back on fatty and greasy foods.

You are suffering from Acute Viral hepatitis A.
Presence of highly elevated liver enzymes suggests the diagnosis.
Acute viral hepatitis has span of 8 weeks and the first 2 weeks are symptomatic as compared to remaining part.
Liver enzymes start rising before bilirubin level and comes down before serum bilirubin level.
This is a natural process and phenomenon and you need not to worry.
It may take 1-2 weeks to come down.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist and should go for thorough check up.
You should take ursodeoxycholic acid, multivitamin, pantaprazole and antiemetics on written prescription.
you should take normal diet.

But,you didn't mention the test which diagnosed Hepatitis A.Whether you have undergone Serum IgM anti-HAV, the accurate test to diagnose it?
As per literature,most cases are self limited and in 85% of patients,all the symptoms will be subsided by 3 months.
Be patient.

There are no specific medicines to cure infection with hepatitis A. Most people require no treatment except to relieve symptoms. However, if symptoms become severe or dehydration develops, then a treatment is given.
Hepatitis A symptoms are usually mild and resolve on their own; most patients fully recover in 3 to 6 months.
Rarely will patients develop complications such as relapsing hepatitis or liver failure.
Death from hepatitis A is rare.
The elderly, the very young, and people with advanced chronic liver diseases such as from hepatitis C are at greatest risk for complications such as liver failure or fulminant hepatitis from hepatitis A.
