Diagnosed With Hyperthyroidism. Missing Heartbeats. Is There A Breathing Exercise Which Can Cure This Problem?

I have just seen on the internet that in order to "cure" a missing heartbeat I could send for a book that tells me how to breathe correctly and stop the missing heartbeat all together. During recent years I was diagnosed with a hyperactive thyroid and following a course of neo-marcazole I started having the missing heartbeat. Eventually it was suggested I take a one off radioactive pill and this jolted the thyroid back into working normally. Unfortunately I still have the missing heartbeat occasionally, especially when I am stressed. I would value your opinion. Kind Regards, Jean Clayton

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

Having missed or irregular heartbeats can be due to various medical conditions and can sometimes be indicative of a serious cardiac problem also. So, it is essential that you need a proper evaluation first, before trying any remedial measures.

I would advise you to see a doctor for a detailed physical examination and further investigations, like an ECG, so that a correct diagnosis can be made. Further treatment will depend on the diagnosis. If all medical causes are ruled out, then it is possible that this could be stress related - in which case, you can try breathing exercises and other relaxation techniques.

Wish you all the best.
