Discharge From Left Ear For Long. Suggested Surgery. Will Surgery Cause Any Nerve Damage?

hey i just wanted to ask that i have been having a discharge from my left ear for a long time and now i am going seeing a specialist and they have said that i will need a ear surgery? i wanted to ask that is ear surgery really painful and scary? this is my first ever surgery and i am really scared incase i loose my earing or damage a nerve?

please help

the surgery is done under anaesthesia and under high power microscopes
there are very less chances of pain and hearing loss if done correctly ubder high power microscopes
