Dizziness, Heightened Pulse Rate, Taking Deep Breaths. Drinking Water, Getting Up Slowly. Treatment?
hi I ve been dizzy all day when I stand up I can still walk straight and stuff but I just feel dizzy and my heart starts to race and I take deep breaths. When I m sitting it s not so bad but I feel a little shaky even though I know I m not shaking and the dizziness is not as bad. I ve tried everything I know to do, which is I ve put my feet up, I ve been drinking cups of water, I ve eatin 3 meals, and I ve gotten up slowly. But nothing changes.
The mechanism for posture and balance is inside the inner ear. An ENT (Ear Nose Throat) specialist should be the first person to assess and assist.
There could be other causes - like anaemia > routine blood work-up will show
The third step is to see a neurologist - there are several possibilities and investigations.
Generally, it subsides in a few days
It is possible that the dizziness is related to (1) postural hypotension- in this condition the blood pressure drops on standing, it is treatment by fluid replacement, standing slowly, stopping any medicatiion that may be causing the symptoms and in some cases medication may be required (2) BPPV- this is a common cause of vertigo, the symptoms tend to last a few seconds, it is treated by the performance of certain manouvres (3) menieres-another cause of vertigo, the symptoms may last a few minutes, it may be associated with tinnitus or hearing loss (4) heart disease- abnormal rhythms of the heart can cause dizziness when the palpitations occur (5) anemia- low red cell mass (6) vestibular labyrinthitis-usually associated with a previous viral infection- the dizziness can last for hours
It may be best for you to visit your doctor for him/her to determine the exact cause of your symptoms and to treat you appropiately
I hope this helps
Hi Sarpanit,
Thanks for writing your query.
It will be of help if you kindly mention the status of your blood pressure.
Also mention if you are on some medication.
Please get the following investigations done :-
