Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 20 year old Grandson has ADHD. Recently it was discovered he also is High Functioning Aspbergers and low on the Autism scale. His mother, who is a social worker, never saw these problems in her own son even though she worked with children in her job. He has been sent to live with family here by us now, and he advised me that ADHD people do not have feelings. Is this really true? We are trying to understand and work with him and don t know where to start. His father feels he just needs boundaries and religion to solve his problems . My heart breaks for this grandson. To explain further, we have lived a great distance from him for over 12 years. His mother has now sent him to us because he got into trouble and she doesn t want him around. Thanks for anything you can suggest.
Definitely ADHD children have feelings and emotions just like us. They can perceive certain emotions like anger and disappointment more than us. What your grand son needs is a special school where he learns life skills, constant support and love.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Prasanna Lakshmi, Pediatrician
