Hello,
Why was
Ramipril, an
ace inhibitor was prescribed to you? Ramipril is prescribed to treat
hypertension, congestive
heart failure, a
heart attack or for heart/
kidney protection, it protects the heart from further damage. The need to stop taking or to take Ramipril depends on the original reason it was prescribed.
If you are not suffering from any of the above-mentioned medical conditions, you are advised to inform the doctor who prescribed you the medicine. Diagnosis requires multiple readings, and 24-hour ambulatory monitoring. Track your BP at home (morning and evening) for a couple of weeks. Maintain your lifestyle as it might have kept it under control.
However, do not self-assess your condition. You are advised to get clinically examined by a GP you trust or your treating doctor who prescribed you the medicine and let him review your full past and present medical history.
Get all required cardiac tests,
lipid profile, kidney function tests, etc., done so that your present heart condition may be known. If the medicine was only for BP, your treating doctor may officially discontinue it. Please get your doctor’s confirmation, because sometimes Ramipril is prescribed for silent heart or kidney protection.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr Nupur K., General & Family Physician
