Do Niacin And Herbal Medications Cause Itchy Rashes On Body?

Good morning doc, It started 3 days ago that I took orally Niacin 500MG to be added in my diet supplement and stopped using same night. That night, I did started itch around my inner thigh, inner arms, top of my foot and now still itching, and around my body. I also, drink my wife s herbal medicine called bayleaves and rosemary leaves. Those are once I thought causes additional rushes/itch. What home treatment can you share? I was thinking about going to see a doctor now. thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The rashes after Niacin are due to immune response of body via arachidonic acid pathway and release of Prostaglandins by the body. Immediate stopping of further dose with use of corticosteroids will help to resolve the rashes soon as possible. Kindly notify the issue with your doc for further guidelines please.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
