Do Antibiotics Reduce The Efficacy Of Birth Control Pills?

Hello! I take my birth control continuously and haven t had a period in around 14 years. Last month I was on antibiotics for 2 weeks and then had unprotected sex last Sunday evening & Monday. What is the likely hood that the pill would be ineffective?

Hello,

Antibiotics like tetracycline might interact with birth control pills and may cause failure.

Commonly prescribed antibiotics like amoxicillin and cefuroxime don’t affect the efficacy of birth control pills.

You can go for a urine pregnancy test to check whether you are pregnant or not.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
