Do Blood Banks Screen The Donated Blood For Infections?
I am a young man of 34, i donated a blood to the blood bank, a month later they send me a card confirming my donation and it stated that my blood group is o positive, i want to find out , if they screen for hepatitis, HIV and any blood bone diseases before accepting the blood
Hello and welcome to HCM, Any blood sample donated in the blood banks is screened for viral infections- HIV, hepatitis B, CMV. Bacterial infection -syphilis is also screened. Parasitic infection- malaria is also screened. If any sample is found positive for any of these infections, that sample is discarded. Before donating blood to any recipient, blood grouping and cross matching is also done. Only compatible blood and blood free from various infection is transfused.
