Do Blood Clots In A CT Scan Restrict Flying?

Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...
I am due to have a CT scan tomorrow, they are looking to see if I have any blood clots. If they find any, will I still be able to fly to Barbados (9hour flight) one week later?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

It looks like you are getting a CT scan of your pulmonary arteries done to check for clots in the blood vessels supplying the lungs. If clots are found then you will be put on treatment medications. You will have to take following precautions during flight.

1. Keep your legs moving during the flight (by bending your feet forward in your seat, getting an aisle seat so that you can walk around freely);
2. Take one aspirin a day two days beforehand; and
3. Get special stockings at the airport for the flight

If you are on blood thinners then you will have to discuss in details with your doctor
