Do Fever, Sore Throat, Headache And Cough In A Child Suggest Flu?

My daughter is 9 yrs old. She has had a fever of 102, sore throat, headache and cough for 24 hours. I have given her Mucinex (cough only) and it has helped loosen up her cough. Usually I treat her at home for 2 days before I call the doctor but Im wondering Is it possible that she has the flu? She got her flu shot in Oct.

As per your complain it seems that the symptoms fever,sore throat, cough and headache can be due to viral infection and seems to be probably due to Influenza or flu..

Taking Mucinex can help in loosening mucous and subsequent removal as it contains active ingredient Gueifenesin that is cough expectorant..

You should get evaluated by a Paediatricin and investigations like chest x ray, complete blood picture, throat swab culture can help in diagnosis..

She can be given a combination of Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen for reducing fever and pains..
She can be given anti allergics like levocetrizine, cough suppressant containing Dextromethorphan and cough expectorant containing Gueifenesin along with decongestant like Phenylephrine and mucolytics like Ambroxol..
Doing warm saline gargles and steam inhalations will help..
Give her plenty of warm water and other warm fluids..
Give her sufficient rest..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods..
