Do Fibroids Cause Pain During A Flight Journey?

This time last year I had emergency surgery to remove kidney stones. I was on a plane when the pain started and the plane had to land and I was rushed to hospital. I still get discomfort in the same area and have since been diagnosed with fibroids. I am flying again in a couple of days. Can fibroids give similar pain and discomfort as kidney stones when exposed to cabin pressure?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello,

Firstly, I would like to ask you to get a complete evaluation before you take the flight to ensure safe travel.

Secondly, the fibroids are not supposed to cause any such pain as the renal calculi unless they are pedunculated or on the verge of torsion.

Renal stones, on the other hand, can dislodge and cause pain while experiencing increasing movement as often happens during take-off of a flight.

For managing slight discomfort, you can keep analgesics and antispasmodics handy after consulting your health care provider.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shanti Vennam
