Do I Need A Medication For Controlling Blood Sugar?

this is for my friend,he is 27 yrs old male, he had a fasting blood sugar of 340 once and 300 when repeated next day,dr told to start with tab metformin once daily,is it necessary to start medicine or go for a diet control?he checkked blood sugar because he had excessive thirst and wt loss

dear friend I understand your concern.sugar around 300 is always bad.thisn increased sugar is the reson for your weight loss and excessive thirst.regaring medication considering of starting metformin is not a bad idea.metformin is a very safe drug.but to tell about your treatment I need to have some additional information like your height,weight,pls do Hba1c,do any of your parents have diabetes.this information helps me to understand better and give good suggestion.....regards
