Do Latex Pessaries Cause Vaginal Itching?

Hi! Doctor, I m a white female , age 73 chronological age and 46 in my head. I m a very positive person but I have a uterine prolapse and Rectecele prolapse. I have a stage 3 pessary and it really is very comfortable wearing it. I d like to know if there are pessary made without latex and what ones are safe? I m allergic to latex, although I ve been wearing one for a few years and it doesn t give me any trouble but I have an itching that I ve had for quite awhile and it s outside of the vaginia, could that itching be caused from the latex pessary? What would be the best kind for me?

if you have been wearing the pessary for a long time, it is highly unlikely that recently you would have developed a sensitivity to latex. so although it is true that some people can react to latex and have a rash and itching, I doubt that is the cause on your case. there are latex free pessary especially available which you can discuss with your doctor, but I doubt that is the cause of your problem.

it is more likely that something else is causing the itching. Yeast infections, lichen sclerosis and lichen planus, atrophic vaginitis, and numerous other possibilities often cause itching in women your age. the only way to diagnose and treat or properly is by seeing your doctor for an exam. fortunately, most of these problems can be easily treated once they are diagnosed.
