Do Low Blood Sugar Levels Cause Double Vision?

I am in my 5th day of going cold turkey for opioid addiction. I just awoke and for the first time in 5 days hungry and feel calm and peaceful. I think I’m over the hump! Last night I noticed I had double vision for a few hours. I drank a dr. Pepper hoping the sugar would help what I though might be low blood sugar. Could I be correct?

Hello,

Yes, if it were several days of not eating at all. Actually I'm not sure about Dr. Pepper, coca cola is probably better. Seriously, one of the main problems with starvation especially with vomiting is loss of minerals.

These include potassium (which soda does not have but gator aide, orange juice and especially French fries and most spices like paprika and cinnamon do have), and even more important in serious starvation, phosphorus. Coca cola is better than most of the prescription phosphorus supplements.

Changes in sugar and ions and fluids can cause temporary double vision. It overlaps in the nerve effects of shakes, if the eyes have the shakes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman
